Family Center of Hope

The Family Center of Hope, Inc., is designed to promote services that will address and effect change in the areas of community violence, drug use, school dropouts, teenage parenting and other dysfunctions within high risk families. At the core of FCH’s philosophy is a deeply embedded set of values about families and the nature of how help should be extended to them. This philosophy encompasses a holistic approach to services. It is the intent of the FCH to break the cycle of these social ills by offering counseling, therapeutic interventions, education enhancement, family preservation services, conflict resolution and other supportive services.

Womanhood Development
The Womanhood Development Program (WHD) is the extended family, the significant other, and the role model for females between the ages of 10-21. The program is designed to provide support to at risk females who have been confronted with school difficulties, the courts, teenage pregnancy, AIDS, and other identified problems. The WHD program will assist female youth in developing positive outlooks on life that will lead them from girlhood to womanhood. Each group of participants will have the opportunity to experience “Rites Of Passage” once they have successfully completed the require program plan.

Work Matters
The Work Matters Program is designed to combat issues surrounding urban dwellers securing and maintaining employment while moving up the career ladder. Intensive case management services are provided through a wide range of serves, such as: assessment, development of individualized service plans, crisis intervention, emergency assistance, individual success sessions, empowerment seminars, home visits, and case staffing. The program’s goal is to empower program participants to make the transition from Welfare to Work.

Empowerment Seminars
These life-changing seminars are designed to empower and equip program participants to achieve “maximum” success in the world of work. The speech are made by individuals whom themselves have advanced from Welfare into the World of Work.

Conflict Resolution
The Conflict Resolution Program (CR) consists of twelve (12) workshops on various topics: What is Conflict, Decision Making, Peace Making Skills, How to Control My Anger, The Truth About Violence, and Communications Skills as well as Mediation Skills that deal with Conflict Signs, Symptoms and Effects of Drug Use. Activity-based seminars, inclusive videos, rap sessions, role-playing, community speakers, and community projects are the sources of instruction. Each participant will receive pre- and post-test assessments. It is expected, youth will demonstrate an 80% competency level at the end of the program.

Homework Assistance
The Homework Assistance component is designed to serve youth who are experiencing difficulties in specific academic areas. Youth will be grouped with study remedial assignments. A study plan will be given to youth to assist in creating good study habits.

Partnership Relationship
The Family Center of Hope staff and student interns, interface with several local schools throughout the school year. Staff and interns offer special group sessions, designed for each school’s need. They also make referrals to the appropriate help source.

Manhood Development
The Manhood Development Program (MHD) is deigned to address the needs of youthful boys between the ages of 7-21. The program trains and recruits a coalition of teenage and adult men who are college students, professionals, and paraprofessionals to serve as male mentors. Young males who exhibit the need for this type of intervention will be recommended to the program. The MHD will assist male youth in developing positive outlooks on life, particularly in the areas of education and the world of work. Once the required material for the program has been completed, each participant will have the opportunity to experience his or her “Rites To Passage”.

Parent Involvement Component
The Parent Involvement Component is designed to equip and empower the parents of program participants. Each parent will be trained in a multi-systems approach with an individualized emphasis on the strengths and uniqueness of each family system. The Parent Involvement Component involves parent workshops, monthly parent meetings, trainings, and community involvement. Parents will receive pre- and post-test examinations and will demonstrate an 80% competency level at the end of the program.

Counseling
Counseling services are fundamental to each of the programs operating in the Center. Counseling is available on an as needed basis. These services are provided to individuals, families, community, and program participants.
